    Superfood Smoothie (Gut Healthy)

    November 16, 2022 by christina.klapper 1 Comment

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This gut healthy superfood smoothie is extremely easy to make and packed in antioxidants and fiber! In addition, it’s tasty, refreshing and nutrient dense. I love making this delicious smoothie as a healthy breakfast or as a quick and easy snack.

As a dietitian, I get a lot of questions about juicing and I always recommend blending instead of juicing when possible in order to maintain the fiber that is usually lost during the juicing process. For this reason, although this recipe has ingredients you would usually find in a juice, I chose to make it a smoothie instead!

This is a photo the gut friendly superfood smoothie that's nutrient dense.

Smoothies tend to be more popular in the spring and summer months when the weather is warmer and the fruits and vegetables used most often are in season, however, I personally feel like this gut healthy superfood smoothie is a perfect nutrient dense breakfast or snack that you can enjoy year round!

This was inspired by my easy green glow smoothie recipe.

    Ingredients

    • English Cucumber
    • Apple
    • Frozen Mango
    • Fresh or frozen Kale
    • Frozen Cauliflower
    • Frozen Banana
    • Fresh Ginger
    • Date
    • Unflavored Collagen Peptides
    • Unsweetened Almond Milk
    • Optional: Spirulina

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

    1. Add all in the ingredients into a blender and blend on high for 1-2 minutes or until smooth.

Hint: Please note, you should drink this smoothie almost immediately or it will settle. This smoothie has the components of a juice, however, the reason I recommend not straining it and drinking it like a smoothie is to get the benefits of the fiber!

    Substitutions

    • Mango – You can substitute mango for frozen pineapples.
    • Almond Milk– You can use whatever milk you prefer for this recipe. Oat milk, coconut milk, or cow’s milk, just to name a few.
    • Collagen Peptides – You can substitute the collagen peptides for a scoop of vanilla protein of your choice.

This recipe is vegetarian and gluten-free. If you would like to make this recipe vegan, please substitute the collagen peptides for vegan vanilla protein powder.

    Variations

Kid friendly – Your kiddos will absolutely love this recipe!

    Equipment

All you need to make this green glow smoothie is a high speed blender.

If you’re in the market for one, you will love my Ninja Professional Plus Kitchen System.

    Storage

Once blended, this green glow smoothie will not hold up very well if it sits out too long. As a result, I don’t recommend you refrigerate it for later consumption.

I bought spirulina and didn’t know what to use it in. Made this recipe and it was so good, the whole family loves it!
